Unlike many candidates, Ron Paul gets most of his campaign funds from individuals. In fact, the Center for Responsive Politics has found that Ron Paul gets 90% of his funds from individuals. The average donation to Ron Paul's campaign is under $50.
Funds are needed to get out the message of liberty in the sprawling 14th District. The district is rural and has no single "market" in which to advertise, making it one of the most expensive races in the state. But Ron is not only a fiscal hawk in his congressional work, but in his campaign efforts as well. He does not believe in deficit spending, and only spends what money he has. Unlike many candidates, Ron Paul believes that good, responsible governing begins at home: and that includes his campaign!
Federal law requires political committees to report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contributions total more than $200 in a calendar year.
The maximum an individual may contribute is $2,300 per election contest. Couples may contribute $4,600 per election contest. This means, for example, that contributions given for the Primary Election are counted as a different election contest than the General Election. So, if giving contibutions to both election contests, an individual may contribute a total of $4,600 and a couple $9,200.
